Calabria, Living in the past
Coming back to my mother’s birthplace, a small town in the Southern Region of Calabria, after several years since I was a child, presented me with something of an identity dilemma. I had to confront myself, as a young adult, with a cultural and biographical reality that I have never felt mine all the way. That allowed me to adopt a critical perspective towards a world that I revaluated as the custodian of a lifestyle which belongs to the past. Living in the Past is thus the photographic adaptation of the bivalent experience of a society that knows no frenzy, made by people able to take their time. The following photos unveil, on the other hand, a reality stuck in the present, hence past-oriented, eventually unable to speak about the future.
